Resolution on the death of Dr. Joseph Austin Holmes. A special resolution was adopted by the North Car-olina Good Eoads Association, in the annual conven-tion assemlded at Asheville, N. C, July 15, paying awarm tribute to the late Dr. Joseph Austin Holmes,director of the United States Bureau of Mines, and pre-viously to that state geologist of North Carolina, whosedeath occurred in Denver, Colorado, a few days before.;\lr. Pratt referred to him as the founder of the NorthCarolina Good Roads Association. He said that in. [Burnside Hill Foad, Near Asheville, N. C. working with the deceased, during the time that thelatter was serving as state geologist of North Carolina,that he derived great inspiration from Dr. Holmes forcarrying on his own work.
