It iserected by the bounty of one of our native citizens,—GEORGEPEABODY,—now a resident of London, the present capital of GreatBritain. In his childhood and early youth, he received instruction inthe free schools of our village; and, in grateful acknowledgment ofthese privileges, he has founded the institution to whose objects thisbuilding is to be consecrated. This institution has, by a vote of theinhabitants of the town, received the name of the PEABODYINSTITUTE, that, in future year
