Ruined Sandstone Pool from Hellenistic era on a beach near Phoenician Tel Dor, here were grown sea snails from which the Royalty Purple Dye was made.


Remains of Sandstone hewn Pools on the beach from the Hellenistic era, 4th - 1st centuries BC, they were found north of Tel Dor where remains of the 1st Temple era Biblical Phoenician City of Dor were found. In these pools Sea Snails from which the precious Royalty Purple Dye for fabric was extracted were grown. In Tel Dor remains from the Biblical, Hellenistic and Roman periods were found.
