D., the first Presi-dent of Pennsylvania College. A noble man,a remarkable teacher passed away on Tuesday,December 23d, 1890. Dr. Black was a graduate of WashingtonCollege (49), and of the Western TheologicalSeminary, Allegheny. He was licensed as a minister of thePresbyterian Church in 1852. His teaching powers, however,which had already shown themselves in the interval betweenhis college and theological courses, were so great that he wassoon called to the Professorship of Greek in WashingtonCollege, and from that time his life was devoted mainly to thework of college instruction.
