After performing garrisonduty in the city for some time, the regiment was ordered tojoin the Reserve Brigade under General Weitzel, underwhom it had a leading position in the battle of GeorgiaLanding, and by him was complimented for its inthis its maiden fight. During the winter of 1862-63, it was engaged in the rou-tine life incident to its position. The humorous Quarter-master of the regiment, Joseph B.
