Tarifa is the gateway to the Mediterraneans Sea from the Atlantic Ocean and is close to the coast of Morocco, North Africa. The coast of North Africa is clearly visible from Tarifa. Tarifa is also the gateway to mainland Spain and the rest of Europe for many illegal Moroccan immigrants many of whom perish in the harsh currents of the Straights of Gibraltar in a desperate attempt to find work in the European Union.
