Defeat of Xerxes at Salamis
In 480 , the time of the so-called Persian Wars, the Greek fleet decisively defeated the Persians, under King Xerxes, at Salamis, an island in the Gulf of Aegina in eastern Greece. Among the Greek leaders was Themistocles. This illustration dates to around 1900.
