In 1854 it was consol-idated and run with the Peru road. In March, 1862, it was sold by the UnitedStates Marshal for $325,000, taken by a newly organized company, and gold shortlyafter to the Jeffersonville Company. It was, at first, the best paying road in thecountry, as may be easily conceived, when it is remembered that it was the onlyoutlet and inlet to the whole center of the State.
