Detailed view from the sea of Poros Town Beach with sun loungers and parasols. Behind this is the Promenade and main street with restaurants. Poros is the largest town in the Elios-Pronnoi municipality. It has a working port and offers shelter to passing yachts. A small fleet of fishing boats are based here as well as it being the location of the ferry to Zakynthos. Until the earthquake in 1953 Poros was just a collection of small fishing huts. But following the devastation new homes were built together with the port. Poros is no longer a holiday destination being a working town. Up until about ten years ago it did have this role, but with the development of nearby Skala and a range of other holiday villages it has lost its popularity. It remains a destination for the discerning traveler seeking authenticity and a tranquil location. The town is fringed with a large shingle beach.
