The city-made lace was remarkable for thebeauty of its ground, the richness of its design, and evennessof its tissue. Its mesh is square or diamond-shaped, and ithas no twisted sides ; all are closely plaited. The ornamentis not picked out with a cordonnet, as is the case withMechlin ; but, like Mechlin, the ground went through various-modifications, including; the fond de neiofe, before the reseau^was finally fixed.
