Research into the combustion of fuels: laser Raman spectroscopy equipment used to measure ambient flame pressure. The Combustion Research Facility and Sandia National Laboratory, Livermore, California, uses bench-top lasers to study how and why fuels burn. The studies are aimed at creating heat engines and systems that burn fuel more efficiently while creating less pollution.
