In Roman times, however,olive plantations cannot have been extensive, consider-ing that the sunny slopes over which they now spreadand prosper were at that time occupied by gardens andpleasure grounds. With the abandonment and destruc-tion of the villas the oil-making industry gained a document of the year 945, published by Bruzza inhis Regesto Tiburtino, several olive yards are regis-tered among the rural properties of the bishopric.
