High hedge lines and trees sharp corners and edge drop off never knowing what is around the bend, shadows low light or bright.

A petition onto 10 Downing streets e-petition website to campaign to lower the speed limit on Britain's single track country lanes. The current legal speed on these roads is 60mph motorists say It should be at least 40 mph or less. Older vehicles which don't have high Euro ncap ratings, a head on around a bend at 40mph will result in high injury/death as well as at 60mph. it is not the speed limits that are the problem it is the standard of driving that one frequently encounters, how are people having head on around tight bends in the first place at any speeds, this coming from someone who likes nothing better than to drive fast, when good but road conditions allow In Wales we cannot believe the standards of driving, frequently remarks that people think they are invincible in their cars. Same on motorways, it's not the speed of the cars, it's the tailgating which it seems most of the population seem to indulge in - lack of incorrect braking distance for your particular vehicle and road conditions, people doing crazy things like overtaking on the left, cutting across at the last minute having only just seen their junction, people not I don't know what the answer is, perhaps those clearly guilty of having caused major accidents having to resit a far stricter test involving real motoring skills. It is the social responsibility of every road user to do all they can to ensure their own safety, but there is an additional on us of care on drivers, who are essentially in control of a lethal weapon on wheels. Children and dogs can be unpredictable, cyclists may wobble, and horses can be startled easily and for no apparent reason. Yet the perceived absence of other cars on rural roads implies that it is safe to speed, and many drivers either fail to recognise or choose to ignore the risks. Alongside this, the prevalence of commuter traffic and the increase in the use of satellite navigation systems are placing an added burden on our lanes.
