Horizontal view of the Ponte Vecchio 'Old Bridge' and it's mirror image reflection in the river Arno at dusk/evening/night. The Ponte Vecchio is the oldest medieval bridge in Florence crossing the Arno River and is noted for having shops (mainly jewellers) built upon it. It is Europe's oldest segmental arch bridge and is believed to have been first built in Roman times. It was originally made of wood, but after being destroyed by a flood in 1333, it was rebuilt of stone in 1345. Most of the design is attributed to Taddeo Gaddi however the 'upper corridor' linking the Palazzo Vecchio 'Old Palace' to the Palazzo Pitti 'Pitti Palace' was built by Giorgio Vasari in 1565.
