Automated chip collector used in a Biomass boiler in Darby, Montana.

Chips pour onto the conveyor belt the feeds chips into the biomass boiler in Darby, Montana. The biomass plant, constructed as part of Montana’s Fuels For Schools program in 2003, uses woody biomass to power the boiler which heats the Darby schools. The wood chips come from hazardous fuel reduction projects, trees killed by mountain pine beetle, and other recycled forest products.
