He was ordained pastor over a new parish in Salmon Falls,N. H, Oct. 28, 1846. Having accepted a call from the WhitefieldCongregational Church in Newburyport, Mass., he was dismissedfrom his first charge, June 9, 1851, and was installed at New-buryport, June 30, 1851, where he remained until his death. On leave of absence from his people, he was commissionedChaplain of the 48th Mass.
