Robert Schmidt (1864 -1943)


Robert Schmidt (15 May 1864 - 16 September 1943) was a German politician and member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. From 1893 to 1898 and from 1903 to 1918, he was a member of the Reichstag (parliament) of the German Empire. After the German revolution, he became a member of the National Assembly of the Weimar Republic. He remained a member of the Reichstag until 1930. During the time of the republic, he acted as Minister for Alimentation and later Minister for Economic Affairs under Gustav Bauer. He was Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Reconstruction under the first cabinet of Gustav Stresemann
