Damaged microwave oven waveguide. The waveguide is found on the cavity magnetron (metal box), which converts electrical energy into microwave energy. The waveguide's function is to direct the magnetron's microwaves to the food-heating compartment of the oven. Here, it has a hole in the top, which is evidence of severe burning and is likely to be caused by arcing (continuous electrical discharging outside of the circuit path) due to a fault in the system.
