Demonstration of diagnostic imaging using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), a high-resolution technique able to distinguish between different densities of soft tissues of the brain, to identify tumours of the central nervous system & the spinal cord, to image body organs, & to show multiple sclerosis. NMR creates an image by recording the body's response to an intense magnetic field, which is interrupted by radio pulses in such a way that energy is released & then recorded. Here, the patient lies surrounded by the superconducting magnets which produce the magnetic field.
