Ground was broken for the sub-way work on April 6, 1903, atTwenty-Third and Market Streetsto begin the reconstruction of thesewerage system, «which necessar-ily preceded the work on the sub-way proper. LIGHTINGThe lighting circuits in the sub-way are entirely separate from thepower circuits. The subway light-ing system is divided into sectionsabout y2 mile in length, and thelamps at each station and for a dis-tance half way to the next stat
