One of my favourite row of trees, anywhere. And it happens to be in my home village of Lower Radley in Oxfordshire, England, just a stone's throw from the River Thames. It manages to look pretty just about throughout the year - and particularly here in Spring sunshine, just as the buds are emerging. The tree in the foreground shows how life struggles and persists. Severely damaged in one of last year's storms, it's trunk split. But, crucially, the roots were undamaged so - come the Spring - it buds with its neighbours
