Bark is the outermost protective layers of the trunk, branches and roots of trees and other woody plants. Bark includes all tissues outside the vascular cambium. Bark is continually renewed from within, helps keep out moisture in rain and prevents the tree from losing moisture when the air is dry. Bark varies from thin to very thick depending on the genus of tree. It can change with age.
