Tibolone hormone replacement therapy (HRT) drug. Box containing tablets of tibolone, marketed under the name Livial. HRT is used to treat the symptoms of the menopause by replacing female sex hormones. Tibolone is a synthetic steroid medicine that mimics the activity of the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone, and the androgen testosterone in the body. HRT can also help to prevent osteoporosis. However, side-effects include an increased risk of thrombosis and some forms of cancer.
