Major general Vladimir Nikolayevich Shokorov, born in Moscow on July 15 (28), 1868, was a military officer in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I and in the White Army during the Russian Civil War. He was a head of the Czechoslovak Legion in Siberia since October 1917. He lived in exile in Czechoslovakia afterward and served as general of the General Staff of the Czechoslovak Army. General Shokorov died at age 72 on July 11, 1940.

The Dormition church at the Olsany Cemetery was built in 1924-1925 by the Russian white emigre. The underground crypt was used as a burial place for the most notable persons of the Russian emigration in Czechoslovakia.
