CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA (Feb. 26, 2019) Ensign Nicholas Loescher renders a salute as he and other Sailors attached to the future USS Charleston (LCS 18) rehearse for the upcoming commissioning ceremony in the ship’s namesake city. LCS 18 will be the sixteenth littoral combat ship to enter the fleet and the ninth of the Independence variant. It is the sixth ship named for Charleston, the oldest and largest city in the state of South Carolina.
