GL 490 starbirth region, infrared image. Two stars (yellow) are obscured here by a nebula (green) of hydrogen and carbon compounds called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). GL 490 is 3000 light years from Earth, in the constellation of Camelopardalis. This image was obtained with the IRAC instrument on the Spitzer Space Telecope (green and red) and data from 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey, blue). The streaks at upper left are thought to be dust grains lining up with the magnetic field around that star. Image published in 2010 as part of the GLIMPSE360 project (Galactic Legacy Infrared Mid-Plane Survey Extraordinaire).
