This is a microfluidic device, a device that can separate and identify proteins and other biological macromolecules. It is composed of polymers, has no moving parts and is able to work with very small amounts of a sample. The study of the structure and function of proteins is called proteomics. Proteins form the vast majority of the functional structures in an organism. Proteomics research could reveal new targets for drugs as well as providing insight into why and how some disorders occur.
