Guillaume Dupuytren (1777-1835), French surgeon (dressed in black), with King Charles X of France (1757-1836, right) during a tour of the Hotel-Dieu hospital, Paris, France. Dupuytren was appointed assistant surgeon here in 1803, and rose to become head surgeon by 1815. Charles X was King of France from 1824 until the revolution in 1830. During the revolution in July 1830, the Hotel-Dieu treated many casualties from the fighting in the streets of Paris. Dupuytren has a disorder, a contracture of the hand, named after him.
