All through the night is heard the soundof the conch shell, and until midnight themen and women answered each other in asong, the men singing, Rest, doing nowork, and the women responding, Thoushalt not work. About midnight the songceases; but it is resumed at daybreak, andcontinues until about eight A. M., accom-panied with plenty of conch blowing. Theprohibition of work is so imperative, that the. (1.)
