Riga tram in city surrounds: track layout, stops arrangement and famous trolley pole current collection
Riga tramway is the largest and most intensively used system in Latvia and all three Baltic states. The first electric tramway started along streets of Riga as early as 1901 following the horse tramway of 1882. The nowadays system is serviced with 9 routes connecting most of the even distant parts of the Latvian capital. The rolling stock is Czech-built; elder T3 and T6 cars by Tatra equipped with trolley poles are nowadays being systematically replaced with modern Skoda ForCity 15T articulated cars with pantographs. To operate the newer fleet, the Rigas Satiksme system operator had to reconstruct sections of the network starting from early 2010s.
