The crestmay appear to some to be a difficult task, but a greater part of the seeming difficultywill vanish on securing a correct outline of the whole, and proceed to lay in thelights and shades in broad, distinct masses, leaving the details to be worked up PAINTING DEPARTMENT. 241 when the full value of the broader masses has been gained. The light on the face andbreast in half tone having been laid, proceed to paint in the shaded parts, blendingthe edges of contact; when dry sketch in the eye, nostrils and other details, and lin-ish each with care.
