In announcing from thepulpit this new and great work which the GermanStreet Fund enabled Old Pine Street to engage in, said, Let us seek the gift of the Holy Ghost,and apply earnestly and faithfully all instrumentalitieswithin our reach to purify and elevate and save thispart of our great city. It is in this spirit that themissionary work has been done. The Endowment Fund of Old Pine Street wasstarted in 1863 by a bequest in the will of Bailey, one of the first legacies to the church.
