Pollen which has been collected from the stamen of a male zucchini flower being applied to the stigma in the centre of a female zucchini flower. Reductions in bee and butterfly populations result in lower yields in zucchini (courgette} production as the bees, butterflies and other insects are necessary for natural pollination. With the zucchini plant only the female flowers develop fruit.
