Aerial view of Village of Montoro and Guadalquivir river Cordoba province, Andalusia, southern Spain. They call it La Bella Escondía, since this population of just 9,500 inhabitants is completely camouflaged on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, going completely unnoticed by those who circulate on the nearby A-4 highway between Cordoba and Andujar. Montoro is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque towns in Córdoba. It is located at the gates of the Sierra de Cardeña-Montoro Natural Park and on the banks of the impressive meanders of the Guadalquivir river, which have been declared a Natural Monument and surround its whitewashed and romantic alleyways. Next to the river there are still some aceñas standing, some small mills that were used to grind cereals, such as San Martín or Las Monjas. The city has been declared a Site of Historic Artistic Interest. One of its main architectural attractions is the Puente de las Donadas. This amazing bridge, built in 1498, owes its curious name to the fact that during its construction, the women of Montoro decided to donate part of their heritage and jewelry to be able to pay for it.
