THE VIRGL CABLE RAILWAY IN SOUTHERN TYROL The engineering and financial success of the MendelRailway* in the famed Etsch Valley of the Southern Tyrol,Austria, has led to the construction of a neighboring moun-tain cable line known as the Virglbahn, and which offers. The road construction, however, is consider-ably lighter than the Mendel Railway because the cars aresmaller and the braking stress on the track less.
