Kirkenes Harbour is strategically located with a short distance to the Barents Sea and to the Russian harbours on Kola and near the White Sea. The harbour lies innermost in the Bøk Fjord, and is well protected against the autumn and winter storms that occasionally rage outside the coast of Finnmark.
