Mother with baby poling a dugout canoe next to stilt houses, Kampong Phlluck, Tahas River, Tonle Sap, Cambodia
During the monsoon season, Tonle Sap lake floods and the water floods back up the Tahas and Siem Reap rivers. People stay high and dry in their stilt houses and in their floating villages that migrate from the lake up the rivers during the flood. Many in the village fish for a living as Tonle Sap is a very biodiverse source of fish. It is still common to see local people in wooden dugout canoes.
