Workers leaving 'Sunbeamland', Paul Street, Wolverhampton , 1930s. Workers leaving the distinctive Sunbeam building
Workers leaving 'Sunbeamland', Paul Street, Wolverhampton , 1930s. Workers leaving the distinctive Sunbeam building at the junction of Paul Street and Pool Street. Most of the bicycle and motor cycle, and some motor car production was carried out here. When the company left the building, the lockmakers C. E. Marshall occupied the site. The building to the right was 'The Swan With Two Necks' public house - a popular watering hole for the workers (now demolished). The building itself is on three streets - Paul Street, Jeddo Street and Pool Street. It is locally listed, and one of the last and most significant industrial buildings left in Wolverhampton. It provides a prominent landmark to commemorate the once flourishing transport industry in the city. Note the female as well as male workers.
