View SW of a cistern/overgrown pool within the Dark Age citadel of Dinas Emrys on an outcrop above the Afon Glaslyn river. Associated with the legend of Vortigern, a British leader exiled from SE England, the boy Ambrosius aka Merlin (Emrys in Welsh) & two battling dragons who emerged from the fort's pool. The site was later used for a castle of the Welsh Princes, probably Llywelyn ab Iorwerth (d. 1240). Outline of Moel Hebog visible to rear.
