Mr. Byrnes was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Sept. 8,1S63, and was a son of William and Ann Byrnes. Ac-quiring a practical education in the public schools of hisnative city, he entered the world of industry, which forhim was the world of steel. Steel was his life work,although for a considerable time he also was interestedin the manufacture of rubber carriage tires. He becamea steel roller expert, and was in the employ of theCrucible Steel Company of Pittsburgh for a period offorty-three years, rising from the works to an execu-tive position of large responsibility.
