Looking NE at 5 upright stones & 2 stumps of the Nine Maidens stone row on the south side of St Breock Downs, Cornwall. The prehistoric row runs SW-NE for just over 107m with 5 stones still standing, one leaning badly, one fallen and split and two reduced to stumps. A tenth stone was added to the row in the 1970s. The row was once aligned on a standing stone of quartzspar called 'The Old Man' which stood high on the ridge top at the NE; formerly surrounded by a small circle of stones set on edge, the stone was broken up for road repairs between 1885 and 1902. There is also a standing stone called the Fiddler on the same alignment some 678m to the NE, so the row may once have been much longer &/or part of a much larger complex.
