Light micrograph of a cat thyroid stained with the Periodic Acid–Schiff (PAS) technique with a haematoxylin contrast. The presence of carbohydrates in thyroglobulin gives the thyroid colloid a very strong PAS positivity. Unlike in humans, in small animals thyroid follicles are very small.
