Vaudeville gets some valuable recruitsfrom the legitimate stage nowadays, and itis a good thing. The old-time comedianscould play farce as well as comedy, but theirsuccessors have allowed such ability to de-cline. The farce, except in four acts or inmusical-comedy form, has practically goneout of fashion. Perhaps because farce writersof the John Madison Morton style are ex-ceedingly rare. But they are coming has created the demand, and ster-ling comedians, some of the old school, arefinding profit and pleasurable employment infurnishing what was needed. Character act-ors, who are really comedians under anothertitle, are making successful appearances nowa-days in one-act plays, sandwiched with thesinging and dancing and acrobatic turns ofthe vaudeville stage. New farce writers, too,are being discovered. For a time
