Energy Reserves The body fat indices of yearlings v^ere treated separately because yearlings devote most of their energy toward the accumulation of body mass and because yearlings have lower fecundity (Figure 3). Statistical analyses were performed with two-tailed, Mann-Whitney tests. No statistical analyses were performed on the yearling age class because of small sample sizes. The trends, however, approximate those of the 2-year-old-plus animals.
