Mustard gas burns during testing. Arm of an American soldier at the end of the first day of tests on the effects of mustard gas. Two different solutions of mustard gas have been applied, old mustard-1 and fresh mustard-1, in five concentrations (along bottom). Mustard gas is not a gas in actuality but a viscous liquid. It is a nerve agent and a strong vesicant (blister causing chemical) used in chemical warfare.
