Queen Square, Wolverhampton, 1868-1878.
Queen Square, Wolverhampton, 1868-1878. In the centre is Thomas Thorneycroft's statue of Prince Albert on horseback erected to commemorate the prince after his death in 1861 - and unveiled by Queen Victoria during her visit to Wolverhampton in 1866. To the left is the Swan Hotel - distinguishable as the building with the swan above the central portico. The name on the portico identifies the proprietor as Mr Trigger who bought the hotel in February 1868. There are 18th century buildings adjacent to it. To the right are the premises of Simpson & Steen the printers. architecture,Black Country, building,Wolverhampton, town, trade, street scenes,streets,shopping,shops,industrial,historic,old,19th century,Victorian, statues, bank, banks, statue, cabs, taxi, taxis, hansom, parking, market, crowds, busy, buying, cab rank, railings - Wolverhampton Staffordshire United Kingdom, England
