Whitby Abbey, Whitby, North Yorkshire, England taken at on 24th July 1902. Whitby Abbey was a 7th century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. Now run by English Heritage, it was dissolved by Henry VIII. The abbey's church was situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire, England. It was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula. The Abbey sustained significant damage after a 1914 shelling by German Battleships. Photo by Tony Henshaw Archive
