WASHINGTON, DC, United States — The Jamie L. Whitten Building, headquarters of the Department of Agriculture, stands in the foreground with its neoclassical façade. Behind it, the iconic Washington Monument rises into the sky, creating a striking contrast between the city's administrative architecture and its most famous landmark.

Photograph by David Coleman. The image shows two prominent structures in Washington, DC. In the foreground is the Jamie L. Whitten Building, which serves as the headquarters for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Completed in 1908, this building exemplifies the Beaux-Arts architectural style with its neoclassical façade and columned portico. The Whitten Building occupies a full city block, bounded by Independence Avenue, 12th Street, 14th Street, and Jefferson Drive. It houses various USDA offices and agencies, including components of the Forest Service, Farm Service Agency, and Food and Nutrition Service. In the background, rising above the USDA building, is the Washington Monument. This white marble obelisk stands 555 feet (169 meters) tall and was completed in 1884. It serves as a memorial to George Washington, the first President of the United States.
