USS MAKIN ISLAND, Indian Ocean (November 24, 2016) Col. Clay C. Tipton, commanding officer, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, serves food to Marines and Sailors aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) during a Thanksgiving Day dinner, while afloat in the Indian Ocean, Nov. 24, 2016. Although deployed and at sea, the Marines and Sailors of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group/11th Marine Expeditionary Unit came together in festivity and camaraderie to celebrate the holiday with a five kilometer run on the flight deck of the ship, followed by a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in the evening.
