Landscape at the base of the south face of the Barre des Ecrins mountain, Ecrins National Park, French Alps (the Barre des Ecrins is the rockface filling the top of the image from the centre to the right corner). A recent avalanche has left unusual formations of snow in the Ravin de L'Encoula, a small valley that runs between the rockface and the lateral moraine of the Glacier Noir glacier (visible at the left of the image). The mountain filling the top left corner of the image is the Pic Coolidge.
